The Perfect Storm Book Report
The storm was a nor’easter (a North Atlantic cyclone) which absorbed Grace, a Category 2 hurricane, and which itself became a small hurricane before it subsided.
The swordfish ships, at 70-80 feet, may seem large, but are tiny when compared to the size and strength of the ocean. Junger describes waves over 100 feet high and winds over 100 miles an hour.
The overarching, dominant theme of the book is man versus nature.
The Perfect Storm is a nonfiction account of fishermen and their loved ones in Gloucester, Massachusetts—a coastal town sustained for centuries by the fishing industry—in the autumn of 1991.
